Bilingual and Proud: PASE Seniors

Class of 2025!
Class of 2025!

On April 9th, 77 proud seniors from the Passaic Academy for Science and Engineering were awarded the New Jersey State Seal of Biliteracy, a recognition that honors students who have demonstrated proficiency in two or more languages by graduation. Alongside their world language and ESL teachers, families, and school staff, students received their certificates and honor cords in a heartfelt ceremony celebrating their academic achievement and cultural pride.

The Seal of Biliteracy not only affirms the students’ bilingual skills in English and another world language— but also opens doors for future academic and professional opportunities. It is a testament to their dedication, as well as the support of their educators and families who have encouraged multilingualism and cultural identity throughout their educational journey.

In addition to the Seal recipients, eight seniors were also recognized as members of the Spanish National Honor Society. These students received their honor cords in recognition of their commitment to promoting Spanish language and culture, both within Passaic and through community service efforts in Latin America. During the ceremony, they reflected on their four years at PASE, emphasizing the importance of embracing their heritage and continuing to give back to their communities. Many thanked their parents for their unwavering support and for nurturing their bilingualism and cultural roots.

The ceremony served as a meaningful reminder of the value of language, identity, and service—and the strength that comes from honoring all three.
