How has COVID Affected Athletes?

COVID has impacted the lives of everyone, but one big question many students have is, how has COVID affected Passaic Athletics? That answer will be answered by  Will and the Passaic football team and Nathaniel from a travel baseball team. For Will and Nathaniel COVID was like any other obstacle, he felt like “COVID didn’t stop him from working hard.” But  COVID did affect the number of games that were constantly changing the regular 10 season game to a cool six, even changing the number of practices they were which could have affected all athlete’s performances. For Nathaniel, COVID affected his season tremendously, he had many games canceled or postponed, he recalled a time when he was in a game and both teams found out that they both had a player that had COVID which was hard to process at first because no one really thought one of our members would get this disease. They ended up canceling practices and games for two weeks, it was an unfortunate event but luckily all players turned out alright. The dynamics of the games were different because they needed to get their temperature checked before every game and even wear masks in the dugout. When COVID hit in March, many towns including Passaic halted their travel teams which stopped teams from playing against other teams. This lowered the chances of players like Nathaniel and his teammates from getting scouted by college coaches and missing out on other great sporting opportunities. Nathaniel and his teammates looked at the negatives of COVID and used it as fuel to keep pushing to be a better player regardless of his season were canceled, the baseball team used COVID to boost their team morale because they never knew when would be their last game. Overall, this pandemic has impacted every sports team in our community but how we push through makes us who we are.
