After two long years, Passaic Finally brought back its biggest parade, the “Mexican Independence Parade”. Organized by Tamara Morales who is a member of OMAU, the pause of the Mexican Independence parade was sadly stopped due to the passing of the Founder Herminio Garcia, an immigrant who found sanctuary and a home in Passaic after fleeing his native country, sadly passed away in 2020 due to complications from COVID-19.
Tamara Morales took over the parade as the organizer, she spoke to Telemundo saying she did this with pride for the community.
The parade featured special guests, including the Telemundo News Cast and Pablo Montero, courtesy of La Fortaleza. It showcased traditional folkloric dances that symbolize Mexico’s rich history. Numerous floats represented small businesses in Passaic, which generously provided free products that attendees eagerly competed for. The parade also included depictions of notable figures such as AMLO, Claudia Sheinbaum, and my personal favorite, Dr. Simi. After the parade, a festival took place, featuring performances by current and former students, along with a variety of food stands.
