Astroworld: A Concert of Tragedy

The dream of many fans is to meet their idol. Whether the cost for it is very little or big, most die-hard fans are willing to pay the price in order to get close to their most favorite celebrity. What if though, those fans actually end up dying?

The Astroworld festival took place on the days November 5th and November 6th of 2021 in Houston, Texas. On the last day however, at least 8 were pronounced dead on the spot and multiple were injured during the festival. Many blame it on the crowd and others blame it on the artist, Travis Scott.

Travis Scott has released an apology on Instagram. Some see it as enough, while other folks do not. A few students at Passaic Academy for Science and Engineering located in New Jersey were being interviewed on the topic.

“It could have been handled a lot better, there should have been more and better security guards,” Allison stated. “The apology that Travis Scott gave should have also been much more genuine.”

Not only do many people agree with her statement, but many students agree that the blame should be put onto Travis Scott. It was said that numerous people had begged him to stop, but he did not pay any attention. Travis kept on performing until the festival was over.

“They were screaming for help and a lot of people were able to hear that,” Jade expressed. “Any sane artist would have been able to stop and do something about it, especially when it comes to the health of their fans.”

Citizens find it reasonable that Travis was not able to hear any of his fans. This is because of how loud the area was during the time of this chaos. It has also be proved that Scott did in fact acknowledge the cries of his fans among many other things, he just did not do anything about it.

“How did he not notice the crowd punching each other?” Bhoomi questioned. Allison continued on by stating that, “there were a lot of people who were sneaking in yet they didn’t do anything to stop it.”

Many students at Passaic Academy for Science and Engineering believe that Travis Scott and the security is to blame on the matter. Others also believe that it is the fans who should be at fault since they were the ones stomping on each other. All in all, the lives of those who tragically died in the festival will always be remembered. According to CNN, “Two high school students, a man who was trying to save his fiancé and a 9-year-old boy are among 10 people who died after a crowd surge at the Astroworld Festival tragedy in Houston, authorities said.”

The artist, Travis Scott, showed little concern for what was happening at his concert as things began to intensify. 30 minutes prior to the show ending, he stated the following, ¨Y’all know what you came to do.” At the end, he finished the show with,“I love y’all. Make it home safe. Good night!”
