Early Thursday morning, after violent protests in the U.S. Capitol, Vice President Mike Pence confirmed that Joe Biden has won the presidential election and will be the next President of the United States. 

Biden was officially declared the winner at 3:41 a.m. EST. Through a White House aid social media account, President Trump released a statement acknowledging Biden’s win and promising a peaceful transfer of power. “Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” Trump’s statement said.
